Should I be scared of fats?

Are fats really that bad for me?

So many people are scared of including fats in their diet , but including healthy fats regularly is so important especially for pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women.

There are so many benefits when including the right kind of fats such as balancing your blood sugar and keeping us fuller for longer.

Fats should be apart of a balanced diet just as long as you are including the right fats.

Did you know that 50% of healthy breast milk is actually made up of saturated fats?

Artificially saturated fats are what we want to stay away from. But unfortunately because of them all fats now have a bad wrap!

So what are the “good fats” and which are the “bad fats”?

Naturally saturated fats are the healthy fats! These are the ones we want to include regularly in our diet! These include:

  • Grass fed butter (organic preferred) your butter shouldn’t include oils! always check the packaging as some have clever marketing. You want a butter where the ingredients are milk or cream and salt. Thats it!

  • Nuts and nut butter

  • Coconut oil and coconut products such as milk and cream.

  • Ghee

  • Tallow

  • Avocado oil

Artificially saturated fats: These are the ones you want to avoid and not include in your diet. These include hydrogenated and trans fats and are hard for our bodies to process. These include:

  • Seed oils such as canola, sunflower, cottonseed ect that are deprived from vegetable, corn, seed and soy.

  • Margerine
